In October 2013, I backed a project on Kickstarter called Fairy Tale Games: Battle Royale, The Miniatures Campaign. It's a game brought to us by Artistic Justice Games, and even though it's currently in production, it looks amazing. And you can see more previews of the game and characters shown by clicking this link.
When I first backed, I had no idea of the impact this game would have on my life. I backed because I love FairyTales. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved all the Fairy Tales, and not just the Disney ones. I was raised on the Brothers Grimm stories, and some Native American tales my Daddy used to tell me. Two of my current favorite television shows are Grimm and Once Upon A Time.
I love the twists spun on the Fairy Tales, and the game Fairy Tale Games: Battle Royale appeals to me on so many levels. Not only does it have the characters I've grown up with, but it puts another unique spin on them, where they're pitted against each other.
While the campaign for the Miniatures was in full swing, I had to back out for some family reasons. Other backers of the Minis offered to help me out, and offered their emotional support when I needed it the most. I dropped out of the campaign, but then later returned to back. When I rejoined the campaign for the Miniatures, I was welcomed back and felt genuinely cared about, not only by some of the backers, but also Alex of Artistic Justice Games.
The last few days of the campaign, there were a lot of backers (myself included) chatting away in the comment section. We became known as Night Court, or Backers Royale. I've never met any of these people, but in the short month that I've known them, I feel that we've become great friends.
Just tonight, 16 November, Alex and company at Artistic Justice came up with a Beta version of a forum for all of us Backers Royale to chat on. It was there tonight that spurred this website/blog.
One of my hobbies and sometimes part time job is quilting. For a while I've been bouncing this idea around my head about asking Alex who his favorite character is. I've been toying with the idea of creating smaller art quilts based on the characters from these Fairy Tales. I'd ideally like to make them in battle mode, and maybe even non battling too.
So tonight I asked Alex if he or the team would mind if I started creating these Fairy Tale Quilts. He gave me the go ahead.
This blog will be dedicated to my creations based on Fairy Tale Games: Battle Royale.
Currently (if a few of us have counted right) there will be 182 characters. You can see a listing of all the characters here.
And a special shout out to Michael for coming up with the name for my blog. :) I love the play on words with batting instead of battle. For those of you who don't know, batting is the filling inside of a quilt.
Jennifer! I Love this idea!!! :)
